History

In the fall of 1917 when Reverend Christopher Conley Young finished his sermon at the Tyler Street Methodist Church in Dallas, he stepped down to greet the congregation and met his fate. An 85 year old woman who had no money, no relatives, and no place to go, asked “Can you find me a place to live?”

Reverend Young did some research and found no solution for her or other widowed women of that time. He was so moved by her plight that he resigned his pastorate in 1919; and, with the blessing of the North Texas Conference, for the next few years he undertook the task of establishing a home for aged women by raising $75,00 in cash and pledges for the Methodist retirement home. But just as they were about to purchase the land next to the Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff, Reverend Young died at the age of 44.  The burden of traveling the entire state to raise money had sapped his strength and eventually he broke under the strain. He died October 18, 1921.

The Conference was so moved by his unwavering dedication to this cause that they carried out his plans purchasing the land and built the building. They also changed the name to the C. C. Young Memorial Home (now CC Young) to honor Reverend Young.

In 1925, The Women’s Auxiliary was organized.  The Auxiliary has provided help and support to CC Young for 99 years.

PAST AUXILIARY PRESIDENTS
Our Mission

We are dedicated to the care and well-being of residents. Comprised of residents, and outside UMW, church, and community members, Auxiliary members volunteer their time in a variety of projects to support residents.  We also work to raise and provide funds in support of The Benevolence Fund, and resident activities. As an organization, we work closely with the Administrators at CC Young to provide each resident a welcoming community focused on excellent care and opportunities for growth.

The CC Young Auxiliary takes great pride in the efforts and generosity of its members!  Over the years, the Auxiliary has made many contributions, both monetarily and through volunteer efforts, that have contributed to the Christian love that binds the CC Young community together.
